Garden Makeovers & Maintenance in York
Most gardens do not need one thing doing, they need five things doing in the right order. Designing and building the whole space at once means the levels, the drainage and the sight lines all work together, and you are not paying for the same access twice.
Whole garden projects
One plan, one team, one visit
A typical makeover pulls together a patio or seating area, a reshaped lawn, new borders, raised beds and a fence or screen around the edge. Doing it as one project means the paving falls run into the lawn levels properly, the beds get built before the turf goes down, and there is only one dig out and one lot of muck away.
It also means the awkward decisions get made in the right order. Where the sun actually sits at four in the afternoon, whether the shed is in the best place, where the water goes in a downpour, and how you get a wheelbarrow from the front to the back without crossing the new lawn.
Darren will walk the garden with you, sketch out the options and price the work in stages if you would rather spread it over two seasons.
What that can include
- Paving and seating areas. Positioned for the light rather than squared off against the back wall out of habit.
- Reshaped lawns. Sweeping edges cut in against borders, sized so a mower can actually turn.
- Borders and raised beds. Built, filled with good soil and edged so the mulch stays where it is put.
- Paths and stepping stones. Following the route people actually walk, not the one on the plan.
- Fencing and screens. Boundaries and privacy panels finished to match the rest of the build.
- Ongoing maintenance. Regular visits for hedge cutting, border tidying, grass and general upkeep once the build is done.

What to expect
Before any of that starts
Darren walks the garden with you and prices each element separately in a written quote, so the work can be staged across seasons if that suits the budget better. Access for machinery and deliveries is planned at the visit. The site is kept tidy throughout a multi-week build, not just on the final day.

One Plan for the Whole Garden
Paving, lawn and borders are sequenced together as one project, so the levels and drainage all work with each other rather than being figured out separately across three uncoordinated visits from three different tradespeople.
Built by the Team That Designs It
No handoff between a designer and a separate contractor, which is often where budgets and timelines slip. The person who walks the garden and sketches the layout is the same person who builds it.
Maintenance After the Build
Many customers stay on for regular visits once the build itself is finished, and mentioning this at quote stage means planting and lawn shapes can be designed from the start around how often someone will be in to maintain them.
